Amaara was born on January 20, 2024. I had not originally planned to buy her as my foundation whole colour bitch, but when I evaluated her at about ten weeks of age, I could not resist her! Since my black and tan boy Toshi had died three years prior, I had deeply missed having a black and tan Cavalier. Fortunately, Dorothy agreed to sell her to me instead of a ruby girl I had originally desired.
At the time, the U.S.A. was preparing for a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. I happen to love the Bonnie Tyler song "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and immediately named her Meadowlake Total Eclipse at Lakeville. There was just one tiny problem: I have a longtime boarding client who is a Meadowlake ruby girl named Bonnie. Every summer her parents travel to their native Norway, and Bonnie boards three months with me. I realized it would be far too confusing to have two Bonnies under the same roof, even if one did not live with me full-time. I reread the lyrics of the song and was struck by the line in the chorus, "Forever's gonna start tonight." I went looking for female names that meant "forever" or "eternal" and found the Sanskrit name Amaara. It translates to "eternal, beautiful, and victorious." Now you may laugh, but I am more than a little superstitious. I definitely believe that names can alter the trajectory of one's life. My first and middle names translate to "bitter victory of the people," so it is not surprising to me that I became an immigration lawyer who litigates against the U.S. government constantly. I felt Amaara was a fantastic and meaningful name for a show dog! Time will tell if she lives up to her moniker.
